Workplace & Collaboration Policy

Clear expectations for thoughtful, responsible collaboration.

About this policy

MeydaNews is an independent, open-source media-intelligence project based in Berlin, Germany. This policy describes our approach to collaboration. It applies to project collaboration; any employment or paid engagement must have its own agreed terms.

Remote collaboration

Our primary workplace model is remote. We collaborate online, with Berlin as the project base. Routine collaboration does not require attendance at a shared office. Any in-person meeting is arranged in advance by mutual agreement. For paid roles, permitted working locations and any location-specific requirements are agreed separately before the engagement begins.

Communication and availability

We document decisions, share progress and raise blockers clearly. Collaborators agree on availability, responsibilities and deadlines for each piece of work. Meetings should have a clear purpose and take time zones and personal commitments into account. Participation does not imply continuous availability.

Respectful and accessible collaboration

We welcome different backgrounds and perspectives. We expect constructive feedback, respectful disagreement and consideration for language and accessibility needs. Harassment, discrimination and personal attacks are not acceptable. Concerns or requests for adjustments can be raised through the contact address below.

Evidence, privacy and responsible development

Our work prioritizes inspectable evidence, transparent uncertainty and access to original reporting. Contributors should respect source attribution, protect personal information and keep credentials and non-public project data out of public issues, code and shared materials. Access to project systems is limited to what a task requires.

Roles, compensation and expenses

An open-source contribution does not by itself create a paid role or an employment relationship. Any paid collaboration must define its scope, compensation, working location, equipment, expenses and other applicable terms in writing before work begins. This page does not promise employment, employee benefits, relocation support or a particular pay arrangement.

Questions and policy updates

Contact us to discuss collaboration arrangements, accessibility needs or a concern about conduct. This page will be updated as the project develops. Changes to this general policy do not replace the terms of an individual agreement.
